Ringworm Cream

Anti-fungal creams are the treatment of choice for ringworms that occur in human beings. Ringworm is a fungal infection that should not be left untreated because it is highly-contagious. Ringworms on the skin of humans appear as a red rash shaped like a ring. As healthy as the skin on the center of the rash may seem, it is still an infection that any person for that matter will regret having. It is gross to look at for crustiness and skin elevation can be observed on the outer ring circle. One of the symptoms present with ringworms is itchiness and is the main symptom that is very irritating and worrisome.

Do not be misled by its name for ringworm is not actually a worm. Instead, it is a kind of fungus that can be effectively treated by anti-fungal creams. Pets can have it too and there are dips and shampoos available on the market to treat them. Ringworms can spread throughout a person’s body that is why the help of oral medications are needed in such a case whereas creams can do the trick very well in minor cases.

There are different kinds of ringworms which can be mostly treated by the creams. Athlete’s foot is one kind that is acquired by most athletes and other sports enthusiast who wear shoes and socks often. Athlete’s foot locates itself on the feet, jock and also in the groin but is nothing that over-the-counter creams cannot get rid of. There are creams that need prescription such as Miconazole or Clotrimazole. Branded products also have creams that contain these products such as Micatin, Monistat, Tinactin and Lotrimin. Another branded product, Lamisil, not only contains those mentioned above but also Terbinafine which is a drug that has a high-level of treating fungus. Of course, before each application of the cream, the infected area must first be washed with soap and water and then dried. Make sure that the cream is thoroughly spread around the area of infection to achieve maximum effect. Never stop the medication if itchiness has disappeared because most treatments must finish a two to four weeks course before it is stopped.

Medical help must be sought if no alleviation is achieved within the two-week period for there are still other medications which can be prescribed such as Allylamines to speed up the cure.

Other areas that can be attacked by ringworm is the scalp and under the nails. The toe nails and the skin under the nail are the common areas hit by fungal nail infection. Compared to the other types of Ringworm, fungal nail infection is more difficult to cure although among all the treatments available for it, anti-fungal pills are the most effective.
